The history of the department's formation begins with the creation in 1934. Military - sports department, which was headed by Z.R. Kashirin. In 1948 was organized by the independent Chair of Physical Education and Sports, the first head of which became Danil Iosifovich Chernyak. Then the department was successively headed by docent Knyazev A.M, Glebov E.M docents, candidates of science Kozlov B.E, Shishenkov V.S, teacher Karimbayev A.K., candidate of science, associate professor Bliznetsov I.Ya., associate professor Mukambetov A.A., senior teacher Almashev M.U. At the present time the head of the department is Honored coach of KR, master of sports Murataliev M.T. Currently, the university team trains more than 200 students of athletes of various qualifications, including 10 masters of sports. The pride of the university are the medalists of the world, world champions, participants of the World Student Games, Asian champions, multiple champions of the Kyrgyz Republic, champions of Eurasia, champions among universities of the Kyrgyz Republic in various sports (Cholponkulov Z., M. Mombekov, Z. Aliev, R. Urmatbek uulu, I. Sadyrbekov, K. Nurmatbekov, D. Janybek uulu, B. Alymbekov, N. Eraliev, C. Chalabaev, etc. Every year at KNAU there are held intramural sporting events in 6 kinds of sports: among the freshmen, faculty and teaching staff of the university. Separately, the field day of KNAU colleges is held.
